Watch and Pray

"Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak." Matthew 26:41 Why watch and pray, below explanation is based on and what I have understood from the series of books of John Owen (1616-1683). Since indwelling sin always abides in a believer, not only abides but acting, not only acting but produces soul destroying sins, it is the believer's responsibility to mortify the sin. Below two principles help us to understand it more clearly Principle 1: Indwelling sin is a law. (I find then the principle that evil is present in me, the one who wants to do good. Romans 7:21) Principle 2: There will be no mortification of any sin without sincerity and diligence in a universality of obedience. (If anyone comes to Me, and does not [n]hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple Luke 14:26) Because indwelling s...

God's Love

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16 If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? Who will bring a charge against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies; who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us. Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?        Romans 8:31-35 Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13 Love never gives up. Love cares more for others than for self. Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have. Love doesn’t strut, Doesn’t have a swelled head, Doesn’t force itself on...

Humility

This gives us the answer to the question so often asked, and of which the meaning is so seldom clearly apprehended: How can I die to self? The death to self is not your work, it is God's work. In Christ you are dead to sin, the life there is in you has gone through the process of death and resurrection; you may be sure you are indeed dead to sin. But the full manifestation of the power of this death in your disposition and conduct depends upon the measure in which the Holy Spirit imparts the power of the death of Christ. And here it is that the teaching is needed: if you would enter into full fellowship with Christ in His death, and know the full deliverance from self, humble yourself. This is your one duty. Place yourself before God in your utter helplessness; consent heartily to the fact of your impotence to slay or make alive yourself; sink down into your own nothingness, in the spirit of meek and patient and trustful surrender to God. Accept every humiliation, look upo...

God's word

In Bible Gods word is described as many ways, only word of God can change human life, following verses explain how  Gods word  can change our lives. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face   in a  mirror ;   for   once   he has looked at himself and gone away,   he has immediately forgotten what kind of person  he  was.   But one who looks intently at the perfect law,   the   law   of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a  forgetful  hearer but   an  effectual  doer, this man will be   blessed in   what he does.   James 1:23-25 “Is not My word like  fire ?” declares the  Lord , “and like a hammer which shatters a rock?    Jeremiah 23:29 “Is not My word like fire?” declares the  Lord , “and  like  a  hammer  which  shatter...
